つむぐ - Woven Vol.2
This exhibition consists of her artwork sequence “Shin design + plus series”, which she started in the midst of the pandemic, and other ten two-dimensional paintings. The sequence is an integrated art where Karasumaru employs her exceptional sense of color into traditional Japanese painting design adding the essence of European medieval art as the root of the paintings history. In this way, the elements of the Eastern and the Western, painting and design, and medieval and contemporary arts are all interwoven and fused with each other into a new form of her art. In this exhibition, Karasumaru contemplates the work of major medieval European artists such as Piero della Francesca, Memling, Dürer, Van Eyck, and transforms their paintings and designs in the tableaux integrating them with her delicate drawing and original coloring. The exquisite balance, color, and space masterly composed are even poetic and entrancing. This unique art style developed over many years while Karasumaru, rooted in Japanese culture, has been living in Europe reveals the inner conflicts and philosophy within her artwork.
この度、2023年7月26日から、大阪では初めてとなる烏丸由美の個展、「つむぐーWOVEN, VOL.2」を開催いたします。本展は、彼女がコロナ禍中でスタートさせたシリーズ「シン・デザイン＋プラスシリーズ」を中心に平面作品10点で構成されます。
これは、日本の伝統的なデザインに烏丸独特のポップで卓越した色彩感覚を注ぎ込み、そこに絵画のルーツとなるヨーロッパの中世美術のエッセンスを加えたもので、東洋と西洋、絵画とデザイン、そして、歴史と現代というエレメントが、互いにつむぎあい、融合して新しい形となって表われます。今回は、デューラー、ピエロ・デッラ・フランチェスカ、メムリンク、ファン・エイク、といった中世ヨーロッパの主要な作家たちの作品に向き合い、繊細なドローイングと独自のカラーリングでタブローの中でそれらの絵画とデザインを見事に融和させていきます。そこに垣間見える詩的で、見事に構成された絶妙なバランスと色、空間に思わず引き込まれていきます。これは、作家が生まれ育った日本の生活文化を土台にして、長年ヨーロッパを拠点として活動してきた烏丸だからこそ表現できる、東洋と西洋のはざまで研ぎ澄まされ、育んできた、彼女の内面から湧き出る思考と感覚である、と言えるのではないでしょうか。
