"温故知新- Forming New Art from Classics."
KYOTO DAIMARU ESPACE KYOTO is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition of Yumi Karasumaru in Kyoto, titled "温故知新- Forming New Art from Classics," which will be held from October 23 to 29, 2024.
10月から11月にかけて京都と大阪で時期を重ねて烏丸由美が２つの展覧会を行います。 まず今月23日（水）からは、京都大丸エスパス京都‐ESPACE KYOTOで、京都では９年ぶり2回目となる個展「烏丸由美展 温故知新–Forming new art from classics」がスタートします。会期は10月29日（火）まで。皆様のご来場をお待ちいたしております。

This exhibition at KYOTO DAIMARU - ESPACE KYOTO, will mainly feature her new series titled "Revisiting the Past - Learning from the Past," which has evolved from the previous "Shin Design + Plus Series." It consists of 25 two-dimensional works. The new series focuses on traditional Japanese art from the Edo period and combines the essence of European medieval art , the roots of painting. Throughout her experience living in Italy, Karasumaru has transcended the boundaries between the East and the West, and within herself, she has merged and purified various elements gathered while examining history with a balanced, unique, and delicate sensibility. These elements manifest in new and pop forms.
90年代から制作拠点をイタリアに移し、絵画作品の制作にとどまらず、作家自身が語り部となり、日本社会の暗部を見つめる個性的なパフォーマンス等、烏丸は常に精力的に活動してきました。
本展ではコロナ禍でスタートさせた「シン・デザイン＋プラスシリーズ」、そこからさらに進化させた、新たなシリーズ「温故知新－ Learning from the past」を中心に平面作品25点で構成されます。
この新シリーズは、江戸時代の日本美術に注目し、そこに絵画のルーツとなるヨーロッパの中世美術のエッセンスを加えたものであり、それは烏丸が長年のイタリア生活の中で、東洋と西洋の枠組みを取り払い、自身の中で融合され浄化されたバランスの取れた個性的で繊細な感性で、歴史を見つめながら現代に生きる中でひろい上げた様々なエレメントが、ポップで新しい形となって表われていきます。
これら2つのシリーズの作品には、ボッティチェリ、ピエロ・デッラ・フランチェスカ、ダ・メッシーナ、マンテーニャ、デューラー、ファン・エイク、メムリンクといった中世ヨーロッパの主要な作家たちの作品が見事に、日本の美と融合して不思議な世界をかもし出します。繊細なドローイングと独自のカラーリング。タブローの中でそれらの２つのまったく違った東洋と西洋の絵画が見事に調和して新しい世界を構築していきます。
