"Bunshin" - performance by Yumi Karasumaru

BUNSHIN
- Performance in three acts.
Bunshin in Japanese indicates the exchange between a person and another that, conserving his own characteristic features, turns into a sort of hybrid. During the performance the artist, dressed in a white kimono on which images of her works are projected, narrates some stories that tell, through the words of common people, about violent facts: a lady tells about the Hiroshima explosion, a boy confesses a murder, a lady meets a war orphan.
Through the idea of violence sublimated into a cultural fact, the artist covers, in a continuous sliding between western and eastern cultures, a boundary zone where the identities mix up and they superimpose, confusing themselves.
