Domestic Art - A brief story of Japan in three paintings and 93 words
It certainly isn't a an easy task to put together and to conjugate domestic and private, at the same time and in the identical space, the ineffable impalpability of the haikus and the unusual lightness of a performative gesture, with the visual narration of a story by fragments and "paintings".
Even more when who accomplishes this small and surprising balance of calibrated and ironic lightness, is yes an authentic daughter of the Land of the Rising Sun, but also an eclectic artist that reinvents her role, inside the stereotypes in which it would be too easy to recognise her. For a while Yumi has been painting and re-evoking a sort of traditional fixity, captured anyhow in the second, in a forced passage of photo-mechanic images, hybridised by a scanning of cold and artificial colours, and anyhow she doesn't repeat herself in the needles of a modular and iconic decoding. She feels the need to accumulate, beyond the surface, another "zero degrees" of her culture levigated by the west; and so she wears the mannerism of quotations to repropose them from close up and in a direct taking. Everything seems to join together in this apparent familiarity of art, comfortable and distant as a tea ceremony in "Bolognese" sauce. If there wasn't the intervention of the aware and sought after disparity of the theatrical action, of the figurative painting, of the "recited" and danced poetry, of the subtended and drawling military march, in the shadow of a heavy historical memory like the mushroom shaped cloud and the lost glimpse of an escaping little girl... Well, the whole private and domestic action lives again in the furrow of the effect not of a catharsis, but of a tuning up of non-edulcorated genres and "knowledge"; but real and present in the dazzling and unrepeatable suspension of a flash-image projected on the white Kimono in movement.

Non è certo un compito facile riuscire a mettere assieme e a coniugare nello stesso tempo e in un identico spazio, domestico e privato, l'ineffabile impalpabilità degli haiku e l'inusuale leggerezza di un gesto performativo, con la narrazione visiva di una storia per frammenti e per "quadri".
Tantopiù quando a compiere questo piccolo e sorprendente equilibrio di calibrata ed ironica levità, è sì un'autentica figlia del Paese del Sol Levante, ma anche un'eclettica artista che reinventa il suo ruolo, all'interno degli stereotipi entro i quali sarebbe troppo facile riconoscerla: Yumi dipinge e rievoca da tempo una sorta di fissità tradizionale, colta tuttavia alla seconda, in un passaggio obbligato di immagini fotomeccaniche, ibridate da una scansione di colori freddi e artificiali, e tuttavia non si ripete negli agi di una decodifica icastica e modulare. Sente il bisogno di accumulare, al di là della superficie, un alto grado zero della sua cultura levigata dall'occidente; ed ecco allora che indossa il manierismo delle citazioni per riproporle in un primo piano e in presa diretta: tutto sembra confluire in questa apparente domesicità dell'arte; confortevole e distante come una cerimonia del tè in salsa "bolognese". Se non intervenisse lo scarto consapevole e ricercato dell'azione teatrica, della pittura traslata, della poesia "recitata" e danzata, della marcia militare sottesa e ricalcata, nell'ombra di una memoria storica pesante e greve come la nuvola a fungo e lo sguardo perduto di una bambina in fuga...
Ebbene, tutta l'azione domestica e privata rivive nel solco dell'effetto non tanto di una catarsi, quanto di una messa a punto di generi e di "saperi" non edulcolorati, ma reali e presenti nella sospensione folgorante e irripetibile di un'immagine-flash proiettata sul bianco kimono in movimento.
